Fitness is big business in Hong Kong. From groups of runners taking over the pavements to gyms filled to bursting point, it seems that the majority of Hong Kongers partake in some kind of fitness activity.
With this in mind, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has organised the inaugural Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo. The event will showcase sports and leisure products from more than 90 exhibitors from Hong Kong, mainland China, Japan and Korea, along with services from more than 120 brands.
The expo will be split into six zones: Outdoor Adventure, Sports Hub, Health and Fitness, Photography World, Fun and Play and Handicraft Market.
“This all-new expo showcases and sells sports and leisure products, arts and hobby supplies, as well as interest classes,” says HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau.
“Members of the public can try some of the products and take part in experiential activities, such as indoor climbing, emerging sports and handicraft workshops. Exhibitors can collect valuable consumer insights on their products and services, launch new products and build their brands through this platform.”
The expo will feature a climbing wall, a rope-jumping competition, freestyle football performances, virtual reality workshops and more.
Autographed football tops from stars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and Cristiano Ronaldo will be on display in the Hall of Fame.
Visitors will get the chance to listen to stories from local elite athletes including swimmer Yvette Kong, 5,000m and half-marathon athlete Gi Ka Man and climbing expert John Tsang, the first Hongkonger to complete the Pacific Crest Trail Wong Wai Po.
The expo isn’t primarily sport-based, however, as it will also have over 40 on-site activities including handicraft and photography workshops, sportswear fashion shows, magic performances, music competitions and artificial intelligence (AI) Go competitions.
On the second day of the expo, budding photographers can attend the Getting Your Shot Right – 2017 National Geographic Photography Forum where National Geographic Operation Director (HK) Ivan Tsoi and National Geographic Magazine Chinese Edition Editor-in-Chief Yungshih Lee will share stories along with the winning photographers of the National Geographic International Photo Contest in 2015 and 2016.
