Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair and Salon de TE commence

Certain to attract watch enthusiasts and industry players from around the world, the 42nd HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair and 11th Salon de TE commence in early September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Organisers are bringing new elements and themes to this year’s gathering.

The parallel events are jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd. and The Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades and Industries Ltd. More than 700 global exhibitors from 17 countries and regions are anticipated.

Under the EXHIBITION+ hybrid mode, the physical fair will run from 5 to 9 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Salon de TE will open its doors to both industry buyers and the public on the final two days (8 and 9 September). From 29 August to 16 September, exhibitors and buyers from across the world can engage in online and offline meetings through the AI-powered Click2Match smart business-matching platform.

Globally significant fair

According to Sophia Chong, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director, the globally renowned Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair has consistently served as an effective platform for the industry to secure orders and establish business connections. This is especially the case given the fact that Hong Kong remains the world’s largest wristwatch import market and the second-largest wristwatch export market, following Switzerland, she highlighted.

Chong also pointed out that the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair exhibits are more diversified this year to serve changing industry needs. “This year also welcomes a first-time exhibitor from Greece and Dubai, and will feature Guangdong, Guangzhou and Taiwan pavilions, hoping to create business opportunities for the industry,” she said.

The Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair includes several key zones. The Pageant of Eternity zone showcases OEM and ODM high-end complete watches. Other product zones cover clocks, machinery and equipment, parts and components, packaging, and trade services.

Five themes at Salon de TE

Salon de TE, dedicated to showcasing internationally renowned watch brands, will feature five thematic zones: World Brand Piazza, Chic & Trendy, Craft Treasure, Renaissance Moment, and Wearable Tech. These zones will present more than 130 prominent watch brands and designer collections from France, Switzerland, Italy, the United States and more.

The debut Guo Chao theme welcomes several remarkable mainland independent watchmakers and watch designs. They will showcase timepieces that intricately blend Chinese cultural elements. Ma XuShu, an independent watchmaker from Mainland China, will present his masterpiece Starry Night wristwatch. Another watchmaker Wei Guang Wen will showcase Guangzhou clocks, a timepiece of historical, cultural and artistic value.

Swiss Independent Watchmaking Pavilion (SIWP) and Francéclat are returning this year, together with a debut by the International Luxury Group, presenting a range of Swiss and international watch brands.

Sponsored by Prince Jewellery & Watch for the 13th consecutive year, the World Brand Piazza zone remains a fair highlight. This year it will feature a lineup of 10 international watch brands and will showcase an exclusive selection of luxurious and rare timepieces.

The Wearable tech zone this year has tripled its exhibiting area compared to 2019, displaying a series of smartwatches and the latest technology brands, including Microwear, DTNO.1, DO and MYZI etc.

Other international timepiece brands will present wristwatches of different styles and personalities. This includes a limited-edition Mermaid Tourbillon by Hong Kong brand Memorigin, with just 100 pieces worldwide. First-time exhibitor King-Wear from Mainland China will feature one-touch Bluetooth pairing for calls, built-in music and video playback, body identification sensors and more than 100 sports modes. Young watchmaker Ricky (see below), cultivated by Hong Kong brand ANPASSA, has made his own tourbillon, a creative work described as a 15-year-old dream.

Networking opportunities

In addition to EXHIBITION+, the fair will also launch the Scan2Match function, which brings communication from offline to online. Buyers can use the HKTDC Marketplace app to scan exhibitors’ QR codes during the exhibition period, bookmark their favourite exhibitors, browse product information and the e-Floor plan, and continue to chat with exhibitors online during or after the exhibition period, extending their sourcing journey.

Seminars

Forums, seminars, watch parades and networking events will provide first-hand market information. At the Hong Kong International Watch Forum on 5 September will discuss the global trade situation and industry trends.

Global market research agency Euromonitor International will discuss sustainable watch design development around this year’s theme “Shaping the Future Watch: The Next Design Trends” at the Asian Watch Conference on 6 September.

On the same day, Noel Wong, a watch collector, and William Bai, a watch culture expert and founder of Watch Traveler, will discuss affordable luxury watch prospects, a hot topic among celebrities.

To cultivate a new generation of watch designers and technical talents and promote the innovation and development of watch design, the HKTDC, Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd and Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades & Industries Ltd have jointly organised the 40th Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition.

The competition has two categories – The Beauty of Perspective for the Open Group and Game Code for the Student Group. Artist Jessica Hsuan was invited as a guest judge this year. Award-winning works and finalists will be exhibited during the Watch & Clock Fair, and the award ceremony will be held on 9 September at the Infinite Galaxy in Hall 3FG of the fairground.

Events, lucky draws, shopping discounts

Activities at Salon de TE (open to the public aged 12 and above) will include watch parades, watch and painting demonstrations, embroidery watch crafts, product launches and more. Visitors can participate in lucky draws, with prizes including luxury watches, fashion accessories, dining vouchers and more. They can also join Smart Bidding to bid on their desired watches starting at as much as 90% off the retail price. Some exhibits will be available for on-the-spot sale.

In addition, Asia’s premier fashion event CENTRESTAGE will be held from 6 to 9 September at the HKCEC, assembling designer brands from around the world to create synergies. Visitors can view the latest products of more than 350 watch and fashion brands at the same time.

Stressing on its determination to make the best beds, it only works with suppliers and people who share its passion for delivering perfection. Dorelan finds it important to impress and maintain its high standards for all its customers from different sectors such as the ones below.

Dyson launches new Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde BP06 purifier that is ideal for large indoor commercial spaces

Dyson steps up its air purifier game with its new Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde BP06 purifier which is more powerful and quiet than its previous creations. Built to be used in indoor spaces like offices, the new Dyson air purifier is engineered with avant-garde technologies for commercial use that enable the gadget to work with high efficiency without making much noise. Below are some aspects that help the Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde purifier stand out.

High Airflow

dyson air purifier

The Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde BP06 purifier is backed by cone aerodynamics which allows the purifier to absorb and purify 90 litres of airflow per second. This is said to be twice the rate of the previous air purifiers. Simultaneously, the machine projects purified air at a 50-degree angle thus reducing any kind of resistance to the airflow.

Purified Air

dyson air purifier

The newly launched air purifier is built with three layers of filtering technologies that ensure that the air flowing from the machine is extremely pure. These include the HEPA H13-grade particle filter, the activated carbon filter and the Dyson Selective Catalytic Oxidation (SCO) filter.

The HEPA H13-grade particle filter plays a crucial role by absorbing 99.95 per cent of the dust and allergen particles from the air. The activated carbon filter absorbs nitrogen dioxide, VOCs and other odours that usually enter the room from the outside. Taking care of harmful chemicals like the formaldehyde molecules, that are produced by things inside the room such as wallpaper, paint, carpets and more, is the SCO filter that breaks down the formaldehyde molecules into carbon dioxide and water with the help of oxygen.

Monitoring CO2 Levels

dyson air purifier

In addition to purifying air, the Dyson HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde BP06 purifier has a feature that records and displays the carbon dioxide level of the room on an LCD screen. The output is colour-coded and the readings are displayed in green, yellow or red based on the CO2 levels. While green is considered safe, red indicates that the room needs some ventilation.

Low Noise

dyson air purifier

Despite all these high-powered features, you will hardly hear the air purifier as it maintains a noise level of 55.6 decibels. If you are wondering how loud is 55.6 dB, then you should note that the noise from a typical office is somewhere around 60 dB to 70 dB.

This kind of noise reduction is achieved by Dyson by adding two internal parts to the air purifier – Helmholtz cavity and labyrinth seal. The job of the Helmholtz cavity is to absorb the sound energy produced by the air purifier, while the labyrinth seal plays a role in noise reduction by reducing sound energy.

Resort World Sentosa’s debut Liv Golf League – A Glorious Beginning

The fifth LIV Golf League of 2023 was held in Singapore on April 28 to 30. Resorts World Sentosa Singapore, which was the golf tournament’s presenting partner and official hotel, played a crucial role by offering world-class accommodation and non-stop entertainment. The leading premium lifestyle destination impressed an international set of world-class golfers and visitors that arrived by the thousands to catch this first official LIV Golf event in Asia.

The resort laid out the red carpet with a panoply of ‘LIV Golf Week Experiences’ that were specially made for golf fans and players alike to enjoy the tournament and their leisure time at RWS, which included themed luxury stays, top-notch restaurants and other attractions like the S.E.A. Resorts World Sentosa kickstarted the event with a welcome party at its very own The Coliseum at Hard Rock Hotel Singapore for LIV players and invited guests. There was also a special meet-and-greet and interview session with LIV Golf Commissioner and CEO Greg Norman and team captains Ian Poulter, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson at the limited-time-only Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience at RWS’ B1 The Forum.

Another highlight of the event was undoubtedly the “Longest Putt to LIV Golf” challenge at the RWS’ B1 The Forum as nearly 2000 people tried their hand at Singapore’s longest artificial putting surface, a 32-metre-long course put together by RWS. Among those who tried were LIV captains Johnson, Poulter and Watson. But it was Iron Heads GC’s New Zealand player Danny Lee who impressed everyone by holing his putt at the challenge.

The 3-day team tournament saw American and RangeGoats GC star Talor Gooch prevailing to become the first-ever back-to-back individual winner of the LIV Golf league by beating Fireballs GC captain Sergio Garcia during a playoff. Adding to his feat, Gooch’s team, RangeGoats GC, also took their first win this year and together with team captain Watson and fellow team members, Thomas Pieters and Harold Varner, they celebrated the win on stage.

Zenith Expands its Pilot and Defy Line with the Release of Seven New Watches at the Watches and Wonders 2023

Perfectly encapsulating its tagline, “the future of Swiss watchmaking,” the pioneering horology brand Zenith has a rich history that has shaped its success today mainly due to the futuristic mindset that prevails among its watchmakers.

In fact, the idea for Zenith’s iconic Pilot line emerged back in the late 19th century, even before the first flight, with its founder Georges Favre-Jacot’s belief that humankind would reach the sky one day. With such an outlook and dedication to aviation, the Pilot line was created as one of the first watches for pilots.

Since then Zenith has continued to hold onto this heritage while simultaneously adapting to contemporary trends to launch a series of Pilot watches through the centuries.

Newly added to this line is the Pilot Automatic with two renditions – stainless steel and ceramic – released at the Watches and Wonders 2023. This newly-designed timepiece is complete with a rounded 40mm case with a black opaline dial with luminescent numbers using the Super-LumiNova technology, a flat-top bezel and an angular large-sized crown.

While the stainless steel version is vertically satin-brushed and comes with two interchangeable straps in brown calfskin leather and black cordura-effect rubber, the ceramic ones have a matte finish and are accompanied by a black Cordura-effect rubber strap and a khaki cordura-effect rubber strap. The dial also has the words pilot engraved on it, a word that was trademarked by Zenith in 1904.

The most notable aspect of the new Pilot Automatic is the 6’o clock mark which is replaced by the date and has a bold white dash on top of it to mimic the artificial horizon instrument seen on aeroplanes thus showing off the horologist’s aviation spirit.

Beyond its physical aspects, the watch has a winding mechanism that uses an open and blackened oscillating weight similar to the artificial horizon instrument and boasts an El Primero 3620 high-frequency manufacture movement which gives the instrument its 60-hour power reserve when it is wound fully.

Another equally fascinating watch in the Pilot series is the newly-released chronograph timepiece Pilot Big Date Flyback which is embedded with a newly-developed version of the El Primero 3600 calibre, the El Primero 3652 calibre which is particularly made with the pilots’ requirements in mind by including two distinctive features – the big date and the flyback function.

With a dial that is slightly bigger than the Pilot Automatic – precisely 42.5mm, the brand dropped two versions of the Pilot Big Date Flyback also in stainless steel and ceramic. Its watch dial is an ode to the brand’s iconic El Primero Rainbow from 1997 with its bright orange minute and seconds hands and an oversized date display. Similar to the Pilot Automatic, the Big Date Flyback also come with exchangeable watch straps and has a quick-release mechanism too allowing watch wearers to effortlessly change the straps.

In addition to the Pilot collection, Zenith also launched three other unisex watches – Defy Revival Shadow, Defy Skyline Ceramic and Defy Skyline Skeleton Ceramic – as part of its DEFY Revival line at the Watches and Wonder 2023. The new pieces are a modern revival of the original DEFY model released in 1969.

The Defy Skyline Ceramic, for instance, has a flat top bezel with an octagonal-shaped black ceramic case that gives the watch its bold appeal. The watch’s case and straps – available in rubber and ceramic – are manufactured with metals and alloys that give the watch its unhinged quality which ensures that watch wearers need not worry about scratches or the watch losing its vibrant new look.

In terms of its technical aspects, the gadget is inbuilt with an automatic high-frequency El Primero 3620 manufacture movement and the first-ever 1/10th of a second indicator.

Winners of “The Henderson Land Realising Your Imagination Creative Competition” Revealed

The winners of a competition organised by Henderson Land Group (“Henderson Land” or “the Group”) called “Realising Your Imagination Creative Competition” have now been announced and their work will be on display for public viewing from June 3 – 14.

The competition was designed to encourage communal imagination through creating multimedia artworks with inspiration from the Group’s contributions to the city.

A total of 17 awards were revealed at the award ceremony held on 31 May, with the participation of professionals from the architectural, design, art, and academic fields.

“The Henderson Land Realising Your Imagination Interactive Exhibition”, a free public interactive exhibition at H Queen’s will showcase the award-winning works and combine the experience of viewing art and collecting NFT souvenirs for the first time.

Through the fusion of digital art, a 270° immersive experience, Augmented Reality technology, and personalised NFT souvenirs, the 12-day art exhibition features artworks that depict future communities, cityscapes and lifestyles.

One part of the exhibition called “Immersive Space” offers a 270° immersive experience by taking visitors on a visual journey of the Group’s contributions to the city, such as the developed International Financial Centre complex and ArtLane.

At the “Web 3.0 Creative Space”, visitors will get a chance to create unique NFT souvenirs based on photos or videos of their AR-enabled interactions with winning artworks. The NFT souvenirs will be stored in the visitors’ Henderson Land NFT wallet.

The Champion artwork in the Student category was inspired by the concept of a time capsule, and a group of enthusiastic, dream-pursuing students crafted a story to depict an imaginative future, where their future selves read letters written by themselves in the present, so as to demonstrate how the future of Hong Kong becomes better with urban planning.

The Open Group’s Champion is a digital artist who took inspiration from ArtLane, Henderson Land’s first urban revitalisation project Urban Art in Soho. The awardee uses point cloud, VR and other technologies to conduct a memory exploration experiment for the audience. The artwork combines original music and the sound of waves to express the concept of coexistence between man and nature.

Winners were awarded art trips to Europe and/or cash prizes, together with a memorable and unique NFT e-certificate as a token of encouragement.

The public may utilise the AR filter at the exhibition and share their preferred future scenarios with the hashtag #RealisingYourImagination and tag @hendersonlandhk on their personal Instagram accounts.
