There is, however, one pre-requisite to membership and that is that this love of the finer things in life – be they luxury cars, planes, yachts, clothes or food – must relate to those of Italian origin. They must all have that “made in Italy” stamp. The founder members of the club all appreciate the exquisite design and technological excellence of modern-day Italian products and the look and feel of Italian culture.
As suggested by the name, the club intends to set up its own racing team for participation in the Asian GT sports car circuit and negotiations are currently underway with the organisers of the Formula Three for training courses for the members. Test-driving courses with Formula One are also being muted.
Club membership is by invitation only and club functions and activities often begin with a morning drive to a local late breakfast or lunch venue followed by further arranged outings or festivities. They are designed to be family-based affairs and include hiking and country walks, launch picnics and trips to the Outlying Islands.
A close relationship is maintained with the Italian Trade Commission with enthusiastic participation in trade shows and exhibitions arranged by the Commission. The Italian Consul General in Hong Kong, Antonello De Riu, has been a staunch support of the clubs endeavours. The club is also lucky to have Kelvin Ma as it chairman – a successful businessman in his own right with strong connections and relationships throughout the Hong Kong community at large.
