Kowloon East: Hong Kong’s New CBD is about to get even more happening

Kowloon East - the new CBD

East Kowloon, which encompasses the neighbourhoods of Kwun Tong, Kowloon Bay and Kai Tak Airport, is transforming into a new CBD (Central Business District), comparable to long-time favourite Central, which has long stood as a proud ambassador of Hong Kong’s diverse financial and commercial activities.

The new CBD - Kowloon East soon to welcome Grand Central residential project

With the potential of offering double the available business floor space of Central, paired with government initiatives to aimed at promoting and enhancing the district, the new CBD of Kowloon East is an enticing locale indeed. With so many exciting opportunities in sight, it comes as no surprise that notable international companies such as JP Morgan, Citibank, Standard Chartered, etc, were unwilling to miss out on grabbing their own slice of this up-and-coming business district. Active growth of business areas and office renting has been nothing short of remarkable in recent years.

The New CBD is anything but typical. The government has designated Kowloon East as Hong Kong’s pilot district for its Smart City initiative in a bid to keep the SAR at the cutting edge of Digital Age developments. In addition to the new Energizing Kowloon East Initiative, this happening area boasts great diversity, an ideal waterfront location, fantastic lifestyle options and efficient connectivity that is hard to beat, ensuring this New CBD will impress any visitor.

Amidst this hotbed of activity, it is impossible to overlook the Kwun Tong Town Centre Redevelopment Project, where the largest-ever urban renewal project in Hong Kong is on-going – a design that endeavors to develop a cohesive “integrated city” – which include residences, commercial areas, government facilities, hospitality venues, retail spaces, open spaces and a large-scale transportation hub – all in one central neighbourhood, according to the proposal on the Town Planning Board Website.

Furthermore, getting around town could not be any easier. Through the Kwun Tong MTR Station, Quarry Bay’s thriving Island East commercial centre is a mere speedy 11 minute ride away. With the future Shatin-Central MTR line targetted to open in 2019, the future Kai Tak MTR station can be reached in just five stops, making commuting even more seamless.

Grand Central - Sinoland's upcoming development in the new CBD of Kowloon East

The Kwun Tong Town Centre is undeniably already a well-developed community, boasting growing business clusters and exciting retail venues like APM mall. Now, a new large-scale residential project courtesy of Sino Land, the Urban Renewal Authority and Chinese Estates – Grand Central, part of the above-mentioned redevelopment project – is expected to be on the market soon, a move that is sure to excite people looking to explore the up-and-coming neighbourhood.

From hip lifestyle spots to hot office spaces, welcome to the new Central…
